Alberto Contador: stripped of the Tour de France win and banned from cycling for 12 months

Routers has reported Alberto Contador is to be stripped of the 2010 Tour de France win and banned from cycling for 12 months after testing positive for the banned anabolic agent, clenbuterol. Called “Clen,” this drug can reduce airway obstructions without many cardiovascular effects. In other words, when a cyclist is climbing the mountain, he can breathe easier, giving his body more oxygen without his heart exploding. He is forcing his body to accept more oxygen than it would or could normally. He is cheating. He is doping.

In this blog I have discussed the issue of doping in sports and shared my distain for it. Normally a cyclist testing positive for clenbuterol is handed a two year ban from the sport because of a “no tolerance” policy. I say ban him for the full two years. There have been other cyclist who tested positive for this drug who had to serve their two years. Contador should not be treated with kid gloves. Ban him.
